“Bucket Girls” drawing in progress

“Bucket Girls” (tentative title) is about bulimia specifically. The girl with the long neck is being depicted as how she feels inside… like a monster. She is ashamed to have even her cat even witness her grotesque behavior, even though the cat is in the back of the room still watching and and loving her no matter what. The other girl around the bottom of the bucket is embodying the sometimes friend that accompanies you in your journey through bulimia, a somewhat enabler. Allot of times girls will enable each others eating disorders, often creating pacts. The girl sitting on the head is already finished and still feels the same no matter how much she tries to alter her self. She is in a depressive state which often follows a purge. She is sitting on her head, to further emphasis the detachment of body and mind, which is a common feeling with eating disordered people. The reason why I chose a Japanese girl is because Japan and American have statistically the highest amount of eating disorders in the world. “Eating Disorders are one of the most common psychological problems facing young women in Tokyo, Japan. According to a Japan Certified Clinical Psychologist, many who came for counseling often gave their reason for doing so as experiencing problems in having healthy interpersonal relationships such as with family or in social environments such as at college or within the workplace. There is still a great shame attached to seeking counseling in Japan, and for this many people do not get the help they need or deserve. It also makes it nearly impossible to determine exactly how many victims of Eating Disorders are in Japan. ” – http://www.something-fishy.org/cultural/roles.php
